Preparation

1.In a bowl, marinate the beef cubes with cumin powder, coriander powder, paprika, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes.

2.Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.

3.Add the marinated beef cubes to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.

4.Stir in the diced tomatoes and cook for a few minutes until they soften.

5.Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Simmer for about 1 hour or until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together.

6.While the suqaar is simmering, prepare the spiced rice. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

7.In a separate pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.

9.Pour in the water and add salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and fluffy.
