Preparation
-
1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
2.Add the sour cream and vanilla extract to the mixture. Mix until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a little more sour cream.
-
3.Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a disk. Wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
-
4.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
5.Take one portion of the dough out of the refrigerator and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a circle about 1/8 inch thick.
-
6.Cut the dough into triangles and place a small amount of filling at the wide end of each triangle.
-
7.Starting from the wide end, roll the dough towards the pointed end, forming a crescent shape. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
-
8.Place the Kiflis on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
-
9.Allow the Kiflis to cool slightly before dusting them with powdered sugar. Serve and enjoy!
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Butter — Make sure the butter is cold and cubed to achieve a flaky texture in the dough.
- Sour cream — If you prefer a tangier flavor, you can use Greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream.
Tips & Tricks
- For a sweeter version, sprinkle the Kiflis with cinnamon sugar before baking.
- Experiment with different fillings such as apricot jam, poppy seed paste, or even Nutella.
- To achieve a flakier texture, make sure not to overwork the dough.
- If you prefer a savory version, fill the Kiflis with cheese, ham, or spinach.
- Serve the Kiflis warm for the best taste and texture.
