Preparation

  1. 1.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a rectangular baking dish.
  2. 2.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3.
Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the egg and vanilla extract. Pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together.
  5. 5.
Transfer the dough to the greased baking dish and press it evenly into the bottom.

Arrange the apricot halves, cut side down, on top of the dough, covering the entire surface.
  7. 7.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apricots are soft and slightly caramelized.
  8. 8.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Dust the Marillenfleck with powdered sugar.
  9. 9.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
