Treat your ingredients with care...
- Pork shoulder — Choose a well-marbled cut of pork shoulder for maximum flavor and tenderness. Trim any excess fat before cubing.
- Apples — Opt for tart apples such as Granny Smith or Braeburn to balance the sweetness of the stew.
- Allspice — If you don't have ground allspice, you can substitute it with a combination of ground cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
Tips & Tricks
- For a richer flavor, marinate the pork cubes in apple cider and spices overnight before cooking.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water and stir it into the stew during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
Serving advice
Garnish the Swedish Apple and Pork Stew with fresh parsley or chopped chives for a pop of color. Serve it in deep bowls to capture the delicious aroma and enjoy it with a side of creamy mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
