Preparation
-
1.In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
-
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and vegetable oil. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
-
3.Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
4.In the meantime, prepare the filling. In a skillet, heat some oil over medium heat and sauté the onions and garlic until fragrant. Add the ground pork and cook until browned.
-
5.Add the carrots and mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes until tender. Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
-
6.Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal-sized balls. Roll out each ball into a circle, about 4 inches in diameter.
-
7.Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the bun.
-
8.Place the buns on individual squares of parchment paper and arrange them in a steamer basket. Cover the steamer and let the buns rise for another 15 minutes.
-
9.Steam the buns over high heat for 15-20 minutes until they are puffed up and cooked through.
-
10.Remove the buns from the steamer and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. Serve warm and enjoy!
