Preparation
-
1.In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
-
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest, and salt.
-
3.Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
-
4.Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
5.Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
-
6.Punch down the dough and divide it into four equal portions.
-
7.Roll out each portion into a circle of about 25cm (10 inches) in diameter.
-
8.Place one circle on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush it with melted butter and sprinkle with pearl sugar.
-
9.Repeat the process with the remaining circles, stacking them on top of each other, brushing each layer with butter and sprinkling with pearl sugar.
-
10.Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the stacked circles into a star shape, leaving the center intact.
-
11.Gently separate and twist each point of the star to create a more defined shape.
-
12.Cover the bread with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
-
13.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
-
14.Bake the Nadalin for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
-
15.Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Orange zest — Make sure to use organic oranges and wash them thoroughly before zesting to avoid any pesticide residue. Use a microplane or fine grater to zest the orange, avoiding the bitter white pith.
