Preparation

1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

2.Heat the milk until warm, then pour it into the dry ingredients.

3.Add the melted butter and mix until a dough forms.

4.Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

5.Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

6.In a small bowl, mix together the honey, alpine nuts, and ground cinnamon to create the filling.

7.Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small portions.

8.Flatten each portion into a circle and place a spoonful of the honey-nut filling in the center.

9.Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.

10.Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F).

11.Carefully place the filled pastries into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.

12.Remove the Skruzdėlynas from the oil and drain on a paper towel.

13.While still warm, brush the Skruzdėlynas with additional honey for a glossy glaze.
