Treat your ingredients with care...
- Berries — Use a mix of fresh and ripe berries for the best flavor. If fresh berries are not available, frozen berries can be used as a substitute. Thaw them before cooking.
- Cornstarch or potato starch — Both starches work well to thicken the kissel. If using potato starch, dissolve it in a little water before adding it to the berry mixture.
Tips & Tricks
- For a smoother texture, strain the cooked berry mixture before adding the starch slurry.
- Adjust the amount of sugar according to the sweetness of the berries.
- Serve the kissel with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
- Experiment with different combinations of berries to create your own unique flavor profile.
- To make a thicker kissel, increase the amount of starch slightly.
Serving advice
