Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Pork or beef — For a tender and flavorful result, choose cuts of meat that are suitable for slow cooking, such as pork shoulder or beef chuck. Trim excess fat before cutting into bite-sized pieces.
  • Bok choy — Separate the leaves from the stalks and add them at different stages of cooking. The stalks require a bit more time to cook, while the leaves can be added towards the end to retain their vibrant color and crispness.
  • Shiitake mushrooms — Remove the tough stems before slicing. If fresh shiitake mushrooms are not available, rehydrate dried shiitake mushrooms in warm water for about 20 minutes before slicing.

Tips & Tricks

  • For an extra kick of heat, add a few slices of fresh chili pepper or a drizzle of chili oil.
  • Feel free to customize the vegetables according to your preference. Snow peas, baby corn, or water chestnuts can be great additions.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and add it to the simmering dish. Stir well until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve the Asian-inspired Frésinat with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The flavors tend to develop and intensify over time.

Serving advice

Serve the Asian-inspired Frésinat in deep bowls, allowing the flavorful broth to surround the tender meat and vegetables. Garnish with fresh cilantro for a pop of color and added freshness. Accompany the dish with steamed rice or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.

Presentation advice

To enhance the presentation, arrange the colorful vegetables on top of the meat in an appealing manner. Drizzle a little soy sauce or sesame oil over the dish just before serving for an extra glossy finish. Serve with chopsticks and a spoon for a complete Asian dining experience.
