Treat your ingredients with care...
- Puff pastry — Ensure that the puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling it out. If using store-bought puff pastry, follow the package instructions for thawing.
- Milk — Use whole milk for a richer and creamier custard.
- Vanilla extract — For an extra flavor boost, you can use vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Add the seeds and the pod to the milk while heating, then remove the pod before adding the milk to the egg mixture.
Tips & Tricks
- To achieve a crisp and flaky puff pastry, make sure to bake it at the right temperature and avoid overbaking.
- Allow the custard to cool completely before assembling the pastry to prevent it from becoming runny.
- For a decorative touch, you can pipe whipped cream on top of the custard layer before placing the second sheet of puff pastry.
