Preparation

  1. 1.
Mash the boiled potatoes in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. 2.
Add the flour, egg, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix well until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3.
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
  4. 4.
Take one portion of dough and flatten it in your hand. Place a pitted plum in the center and wrap the dough around it, forming a ball. Repeat with the remaining dough and plums.
  5. 5.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  6. 6.
Carefully drop the plum dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  7. 7.
In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and sugar, and cook until golden brown.
  8. 8.
Remove the cooked dumplings from the water using a slotted spoon and transfer them to the pan with the buttery breadcrumb mixture. Gently roll the dumplings in the mixture until coated.
  9. 9.
Serve the plum dumplings warm, topped with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Potatoes — Make sure to boil the potatoes until they are fully cooked and tender. This will ensure a smooth and easy-to-work-with dough.
  • Plums — Choose ripe plums that are slightly soft to the touch. This will ensure a juicy and flavorful filling for the dumplings.

Tips & Tricks

  • To prevent the dumplings from sticking to each other, you can lightly dust them with flour before dropping them into the boiling water.
  • If you prefer a sweeter filling, you can sprinkle a little sugar on the plums before wrapping them in the dough.
  • For an extra indulgent touch, serve the plum dumplings with a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce.
