Ingredients

While the English breakfast is known for its hearty components like bacon and sausages, this Arab-style breakfast replaces those with Middle Eastern staples such as falafel and hummus. The flavors are also enhanced with aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, and sumac. Additionally, the traditional English breakfast is typically served with baked beans, which are replaced in this recipe with a refreshing tomato and cucumber salad. 6. 6.
Drizzle with olive oil and squeeze some lemon juice over the top. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. 7.
Serve the Arab-style breakfast immediately, while the flatbread is still warm and the ingredients are fresh.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Falafel — If using store-bought falafel patties, make sure to check the ingredients for any potential allergens such as sesame. If making homemade falafel, ensure the mixture is well-cooked and crispy.
  • Labneh — If you can't find labneh, you can substitute it with Greek yogurt or a thick strained yogurt.
  • Sumac — Sumac is a tangy spice commonly used in Arab cuisine. It adds a unique flavor to the breakfast. If you don't have sumac, you can omit it or substitute with a pinch of lemon zest.

Tips & Tricks

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some za'atar spice blend over the assembled breakfast.
  • If you prefer your eggs cooked differently, you can poach or scramble them instead of frying.
  • Add a kick of heat by drizzling some harissa sauce over the breakfast.
  • Serve with a side of olives and pickles for an authentic Middle Eastern touch.
  • If you want to make the breakfast more substantial, you can add some grilled halloumi cheese or avocado slices.

Serving advice

Serve the Arab-style breakfast on a large platter, allowing everyone to assemble their own flatbread sandwiches. Accompany it with a bowl of fresh fruit salad and a pot of hot Arabic coffee or mint tea.

Presentation advice

Arrange the ingredients on the platter in an aesthetically pleasing way, with the vibrant colors of the vegetables and herbs on display. Drizzle some olive oil over the top and garnish with additional fresh herbs for an inviting presentation.
