Preparation

1.Boil the peeled chestnuts in water until tender. Drain and let them cool.

2.In a saucepan, combine the cooked chestnuts, milk, sugar, Liaoning five-spice powder, vanilla extract, and salt.

3.Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the chestnuts are soft and the mixture thickens, about 15-20 minutes.

4.Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

5.Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

6.Pour the chestnut puree into serving bowls or glasses and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.

7.Before serving, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed roasted chestnuts.

- Chestnuts — Make sure to peel the chestnuts before cooking them. To easily peel them, make a small incision on the flat side of each chestnut and boil them for a few minutes. The shells will then be easier to remove.
