Preparation

  1. 1.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and sugar.
  2. 2.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy.
  3. 3.
Gradually add the melted butter, cream, and vanilla extract (or ground cardamom) to the beaten eggs, mixing well.
  4. 4.
Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
  5. 5.
Preheat the Krumkake iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  6. 6.
Spoon a tablespoon of batter onto the center of the iron and close it, cooking for about 30 seconds or until golden brown.
  7. 7.
Carefully remove the Krumkake from the iron using a thin spatula and immediately roll it into a cone shape around a wooden or metal cone-shaped mold.
  8. 8.
Allow the Krumkake to cool and set in the cone shape before removing it from the mold.
  9. 9.
Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  10. 10.
Serve the Krumkake as is or fill the cones with whipped cream, jam, or Nutella for an extra indulgence.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Butter — Make sure the butter is melted and cooled slightly before adding it to the batter to prevent it from cooking the eggs.
  • Heavy cream — Use cold heavy cream for a richer texture in the Krumkake batter.
  • Vanilla extract or cardamom — Choose either vanilla extract for a classic flavor or ground cardamom for a more traditional Norwegian taste.

Tips & Tricks

  • To achieve a crisp texture, make sure the Krumkake iron is properly preheated before cooking each batch.
  • If the Krumkake batter is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk to achieve a pourable consistency.
  • Store the Krumkake in an airtight container to maintain their crispness.
  • Experiment with different fillings such as chocolate ganache, fruit preserves, or even savory options like smoked salmon and cream cheese.
  • Dust the Krumkake with powdered sugar just before serving for an elegant touch.
