Treat your ingredients with care...
- Lemongrass — Remove the tough outer layers before finely chopping the white part for a more tender texture.
- Shrimp paste — If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the amount of shrimp paste or substitute it with fish sauce.
Tips & Tricks
- Soaking the bamboo skewers in water prevents them from burning during grilling.
- For a smokier flavor, grill the skewers over charcoal instead of a gas grill.
- Serve the Sate Lilit with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for an extra burst of tanginess.
- If you don't have access to fresh turmeric, you can substitute it with turmeric powder.
- To make the peanut sauce, combine peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and a dash of chili flakes in a saucepan and heat until smooth.
Serving advice
Arrange the Sate Lilit skewers on a platter and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and sliced red chili for a vibrant presentation. Serve with steamed rice and a side of peanut sauce for dipping.
Presentation advice
For an authentic Balinese touch, serve the Sate Lilit on a banana leaf-lined platter. This not only adds visual appeal but also imparts a subtle aroma to the dish.
