Preparation

1.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

2.In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Do not let it boil.

3.In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

4.Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.

5.Grease a baking dish with butter and pour the custard mixture into it.

6.Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan and fill the roasting pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.

7.Carefully transfer the roasting pan to the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.

8.Remove the baking dish from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.

9.Once cooled, refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours, or until chilled.
