Preparation
-
1.In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, shrimp, minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, white pepper, and chopped green onions. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
-
2.Take a wonton wrapper and place a teaspoon of the filling in the center. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold it in half to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal the wonton. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
-
3.In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the wontons and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through. Remove the cooked wontons from the pot and set aside.
-
4.In another pot, bring the chicken or pork broth to a simmer. Add the ginger slices, smashed garlic cloves, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Let the broth simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
-
5.Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
-
6.To serve, divide the cooked noodles among serving bowls. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles, ensuring each bowl has a generous amount of broth. Add the wontons to the bowls and garnish with sliced green onions and fresh cilantro.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Shrimp — Ensure the shrimp is peeled and deveined before using in the recipe to remove any unwanted grit or texture.
Tips & Tricks
- For a spicier kick, add a dash of chili oil or Sriracha sauce to the broth.
- Experiment with different fillings for the wontons, such as adding minced water chestnuts or shiitake mushrooms for extra texture and flavor.
- If you prefer a clear broth, strain it before serving to remove any impurities.
- Make a larger batch of wontons and freeze them for future use. They can be cooked directly from frozen.
- Customize the toppings by adding bean sprouts, bok choy, or sliced mushrooms to the soup.
