Preparation
-
1.In a bowl, combine the mango puree, brown sugar, lime juice, soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, minced Scotch bonnet pepper, ground allspice, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Mix well to create the marinade.
-
2.Place the thinly sliced beef in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Ensure all the beef slices are coated evenly. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for maximum flavor.
-
3.Heat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off.
-
4.Cook the beef slices for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness.
-
5.Transfer the cooked beef to a serving platter and garnish with fresh cilantro.
-
6.Serve the Caribbean Bulgogi hot with steamed rice or in warm tortillas for a Caribbean twist on tacos.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Mango — Choose a ripe mango for the best flavor. If mangoes are not in season, you can use canned mango puree as a substitute.
- Scotch bonnet pepper — Be cautious when handling and mincing the pepper, as it is very spicy. Adjust the amount according to your spice tolerance.
Tips & Tricks
- For a smoky flavor, you can grill the marinated beef over charcoal.
- If you prefer a milder spice level, substitute the Scotch bonnet pepper with a milder chili pepper like jalapeno.
- Marinating the beef overnight will enhance the flavors and tenderize the meat further.
- Serve the Caribbean Bulgogi with a side of fresh tropical fruit salsa for an extra burst of Caribbean flavors.
- Leftover Caribbean Bulgogi can be used as a filling for sandwiches or wraps.
Serving advice
Serve the Caribbean Bulgogi as a main dish with steamed rice or alongside a fresh green salad. Garnish with additional fresh cilantro for a vibrant touch.
