Ingredients

In the original Italian Fragole al vino recipe, the strawberries are soaked in red wine and served with a sprinkle of sugar. However, in this Schleswig-Holstein adaptation, we use local white wine instead of red wine to complement the delicate flavors of the strawberries. Additionally, we create a syrup from the wine to enhance the sweetness and add a touch of acidity to the dish. We alse have the original recipe for Fragole al vino, so you can check it out.

Preparation

  3. 3.
Place the strawberries in a shallow dish and pour the wine mixture over them. Ensure the strawberries are fully submerged.
  4. 4.
Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the strawberries to marinate and absorb the flavors.

  8. 8.
Serve the Schleswig-Holstein Strawberry Wine Dessert in individual bowls or glasses, garnished with fresh mint leaves.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Strawberries — Choose ripe and juicy strawberries for the best flavor. If possible, opt for locally grown strawberries for a taste of Schleswig-Holstein's freshness.
  • Local white wine — Select a white wine that is slightly sweet and aromatic. Riesling or Müller-Thurgau are excellent choices for this dessert.

Tips & Tricks

  • For an extra burst of flavor, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the wine mixture before marinating the strawberries.
  • Serve the dessert with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent twist.
  • If you prefer a sweeter dessert, sprinkle a little extra sugar over the strawberries before pouring the wine mixture.
