1.In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until translucent.

4.Pour in the beef broth and Bavarian beer, and add the bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it simmer for 1 hour.

5.After 1 hour, add the potatoes and carrots to the pot. Continue simmering for another 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked through.
