Preparation

  1. 1.
In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
  2. 2.
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. 3.
Add the chicken pieces to the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. 5.
Add the sliced bell peppers and onion to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they start to soften but still retain their crunch.
  6. 6.
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and pour the honey garlic sauce over the chicken and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly.
  7. 7.
Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken and vegetables.
  8. 8.
Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro.
  9. 9.
Serve the Honey Garlic Chicken Stir-Fry over steamed rice or noodles.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Chicken breasts — To ensure tender and juicy chicken, avoid overcooking. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  • Bell peppers — Stir-frying the bell peppers for a few minutes will soften them slightly while retaining their vibrant color and crunch.
  • Honey — For easy pouring and measuring, lightly coat the measuring spoon or cup with oil before adding honey.

Tips & Tricks

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha sauce to the honey garlic sauce.
  • Customize the stir-fry by adding your favorite vegetables such as broccoli, snap peas, or mushrooms.
  • To save time, you can marinate the chicken in the honey garlic sauce for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, increase the amount of cornstarch in the recipe.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
