Treat your ingredients with care...
- Lemongrass — Bruise the lemongrass stalk by lightly pounding it with a rolling pin or the back of a knife. This helps release its aromatic oils and flavors into the dish.
- Pineapple and mango — Use fresh, ripe fruits for the best flavor. If fresh fruits are not available, you can use canned pineapple and frozen mango chunks as alternatives.
- Wheat noodles — Cook the noodles just until they are al dente to maintain their chewy texture.
Tips & Tricks
- For a spicier kick, add a dash of chili flakes or a few slices of fresh chili pepper.
- Customize the dish by adding other tropical fruits like papaya or passion fruit.
- If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or tempeh.
- Adjust the sweetness and tanginess of the sauce by adding more or less brown sugar and rice vinegar, according to your taste.
- To make it more filling, serve the Onmyeon with a side of steamed jasmine rice.
