Ingredients
In this Nordic adaptation, we replace the traditional Italian pizza toppings with Nordic ingredients. Instead of the usual tomato sauce, we use crème fraîche infused with dill and lemon zest as the base. The classic Italian cured meats are substituted with smoky, tender smoked salmon, which adds a distinct Nordic touch. The toppings of red onions and capers provide a tangy contrast to the richness of the salmon, enhancing the overall flavor profile. Treat your ingredients with care...
- Smoked salmon — Ensure you choose high-quality smoked salmon with a delicate smoky flavor. Opt for thinly sliced salmon for easy layering on the pizza.
- Crème fraîche — If crème fraîche is not available, you can substitute it with sour cream or Greek yogurt for a similar tangy flavor.
Tips & Tricks
- For added freshness, garnish the pizza with additional fresh dill and a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
- Experiment with different types of smoked salmon, such as oak-smoked or beechwood-smoked, to vary the flavor profile.
- If you prefer a milder onion flavor, soak the sliced red onions in cold water for 10 minutes before using them as a topping.
- Serve the pizza with a side of mixed greens dressed with a light vinaigrette to complete the meal.
- Leftover pizza can be enjoyed cold the next day or briefly reheated in the oven for a few minutes to regain its crispiness.
Serving advice
Serve the Nordic-inspired Smoked Salmon Pizza as a main course for lunch or dinner. Cut it into slices and serve it on a large platter for sharing with friends and family. Pair it with a refreshing cucumber and dill salad or a side of pickled vegetables for a complete Nordic dining experience.
Presentation advice
To enhance the presentation, sprinkle some additional chopped dill over the pizza just before serving. The vibrant green color of the dill will add a pop of freshness and make the pizza visually appealing.
