Preparation

  1. 1.
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well until the spices are evenly distributed.
  2. 2.
Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  3. 3.
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  4. 4.
While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.
  5. 5.
Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes.
  6. 6.
To assemble the Sloppers, place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top each patty with a generous amount of green chili sauce and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  7. 7.
If desired, add sliced tomatoes, lettuce, and onions as additional toppings.
  8. 8.
Place the top half of the bun on each Slopper and serve immediately.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Ground beef — Choose lean ground beef for a healthier option. If you prefer a juicier patty, opt for ground beef with a slightly higher fat content.
  • Green chili sauce — Adjust the spiciness of the sauce by adding more or less cayenne pepper. You can also use canned green chili sauce if you prefer a milder flavor.

Tips & Tricks

  • For an extra kick of flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture before shaping the patties.
  • If you prefer a melty cheese layer, place the assembled Sloppers under the broiler for a minute or two until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Customize your Slopper by adding your favorite toppings such as avocado, pickles, or crispy bacon.
  • If you can't find green chili sauce, you can make a substitute by combining roasted green chilies, garlic, lime juice, and a pinch of salt in a blender until smooth.
  • To make the Slopper even heartier, serve it with a side of crispy french fries or onion rings.

Serving advice

Serve the Slopper Supreme immediately while the cheese is still melted and gooey. Accompany it with a side of coleslaw or a fresh green salad to balance the richness of the dish.

Presentation advice

To present the Slopper Supreme beautifully, place it on a serving plate with the top bun slightly tilted to reveal the layers of beef, green chili sauce, and melted cheese. Garnish with a sprinkle of chopped fresh cilantro for a pop of color.
