Treat your ingredients with care...
- Apples — Choose firm and slightly tart Hessian apples, such as Boskoop or Elstar, for the best flavor and texture.
- Filo pastry — Handle the filo pastry gently to prevent it from tearing. Keep it covered with a damp cloth while working to prevent it from drying out.
- Bread crumbs — Use fine bread crumbs for a smoother texture in the filling.
Tips & Tricks
- To add a delightful crunch, sprinkle some chopped toasted almonds or walnuts over the apple filling before rolling the strudels.
- Serve the Hessian Apple Strudel warm with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgence.
- If you prefer a sweeter filling, you can increase the amount of sugar or add a drizzle of honey to the apple mixture.
- Leftover strudel can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes before serving to restore its crispiness.
- Experiment with different apple varieties to discover your favorite flavor combination.
