Preparation

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.

2.In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.

3.In a separate large bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, honey, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

4.Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

5.Gently fold in the diced Tasmanian apples.

6.Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

7.Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8.Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

9.Once cooled, drizzle the top of the cake with maple syrup.
