Ingredients

The original French Canapés Winchester are typically made with ingredients like smoked salmon, cream cheese, and dill. In this Sri Lankan adaptation, we replace the traditional ingredients with a mixture of spiced vegetables, coconut, and fresh herbs, giving the canapés a unique Sri Lankan twist. The use of aromatic spices like curry powder, turmeric, and cumin adds a distinct flavor profile to the dish, while the toasted coconut and lime juice garnish provide a refreshing element. We alse have the original recipe for Canapés Winchester, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Coconut — Use freshly grated coconut for the best flavor. If fresh coconut is not available, unsweetened desiccated coconut can be used as a substitute.

Tips & Tricks

  • For an extra kick of heat, add a pinch of chili powder or a dash of Sri Lankan chili paste to the spiced vegetable mixture.
  • Experiment with different herbs like curry leaves or lemongrass to enhance the Sri Lankan flavors.
  • If you prefer a milder taste, reduce the amount of curry powder and chili used in the recipe.
  • To save time, prepare the spiced vegetable mixture in advance and assemble the canapés just before serving.
  • Serve the canapés on a platter garnished with fresh cilantro leaves for an added touch of elegance.
