Treat your ingredients with care...
- Bell pepper — For a sweeter flavor, you can use roasted bell peppers instead of raw ones. Simply char the bell peppers over an open flame or under the broiler until the skin is blackened, then peel off the skin before slicing.
- Scotch bonnet pepper — Adjust the amount of Scotch bonnet pepper according to your spice tolerance. If you prefer a milder heat, remove the seeds and membranes before mincing.
- Crusty bread — Choose a bread with a sturdy crust that can hold up to the filling without becoming soggy. Baguettes or ciabatta are great options.
Tips & Tricks
- Feel free to customize the vegetables in the chow mein filling based on your preferences and seasonal availability.
- Add a squeeze of lime juice over the filling before assembling the sandwich for a refreshing citrus twist.
- If you prefer a vegetarian version, you can substitute the chicken with tofu or tempeh.
- For an extra crunch, sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds over the filling before closing the sandwich.
- Serve the St. Kitts and Nevis Style Chow Mein Sandwich with a side of plantain chips for an authentic Caribbean experience.
