Treat your ingredients with care...
- Black sesame seeds — Toasting the sesame seeds enhances their flavor. Be careful not to burn them during the toasting process.
- Glutinous rice — Rinse the rice well to remove excess starch before cooking. This will help achieve a smoother texture in the porridge.
Tips & Tricks
- For a creamier texture, blend a portion of the cooked porridge and then mix it back into the pot before serving.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.
- Experiment with different toppings such as shredded coconut or chopped dried fruits for added texture and flavor.
- Leftover porridge can be refrigerated and reheated gently on the stovetop or in the microwave. Add a splash of water or milk to adjust the consistency if needed.
- To make it more filling, serve the porridge with steamed buns or Chinese fried dough sticks (youtiao).
