Preparation

1.Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

2.In a large saucepan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat.

3.Add the cumin seeds and sauté until they sizzle and release their aroma.

4.Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and turmeric powder. Stir for a minute to toast the spices.

5.Add the drained basmati rice to the pan and stir well to coat the grains with the spices.

6.Pour in the water and season with salt. Bring to a boil.

7.Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
