Treat your ingredients with care...
- Coconut milk — Shake the can well before opening to ensure the cream and liquid are well combined.
- Ground spices — For the best flavor, use freshly ground spices or check the expiration date on pre-packaged spices to ensure they are still potent.
- Lamb or beef — Choose lean cuts of meat for a healthier option, and trim off any excess fat before cooking.
Tips & Tricks
- For an extra kick of heat, add a pinch of chili flakes or a finely chopped chili pepper to the dish.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, simmer the dish uncovered for the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow the liquid to reduce.
- Feel free to substitute lamb or beef with chicken or tofu for a different twist on the dish.
- Serve the Bračke Škanjate with a side of East African flatbread, such as injera or chapati, for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and enjoyed the next day, as the flavors tend to develop and intensify over time.
Serving advice
Serve the spiced coconut Bračke Škanjate hot, with a generous portion of basmati rice. Garnish with fresh cilantro for a pop of color and freshness.
