Ingredients
In this Surinamese adaptation of the Chili Burger, we incorporate Surinamese spices and flavors to create a unique fusion dish. The original American burger is transformed by infusing the beef patty with aromatic Surinamese spices, such as masala and sambal, which add a fiery kick. Additionally, the traditional American toppings are replaced with Surinamese pickles, lettuce, and a zesty Surinamese sauce, enhancing the flavors with a tangy and spicy twist. Treat your ingredients with care...
- Surinamese masala spice — If you can't find Surinamese masala spice, you can substitute it with a blend of equal parts ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, and paprika.
- Sambal — Adjust the amount of sambal according to your spice preference. Add more for extra heat or reduce it for a milder flavor.
- Surinamese sauce — To make the Surinamese sauce, mix 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, and 1 tablespoon sambal. Adjust the quantities to suit your taste.
Tips & Tricks
- For an extra burst of flavor, marinate the beef patties in the Surinamese spice mixture for 30 minutes before cooking.
- If you prefer a milder spice level, remove the seeds from the sambal before adding it to the beef mixture.
- Experiment with different types of buns, such as brioche or sesame seed buns, to add a unique twist to the burger.
- Serve the Surinamese Spicy Burger with a side of plantain chips for an authentic Surinamese experience.
- Customize the toppings to your liking by adding sliced tomatoes, red onions, or avocado.
Serving advice
Serve the Surinamese Spicy Burger with a side of crispy fries or a fresh green salad for a complete meal. Don't forget to have extra napkins on hand, as this burger can get delightfully messy!
