Preparation

  1. 1.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. 2.
In a separate bowl, combine the marinated meat, mixed vegetables, minced garlic, soy sauce, grated ginger, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure the meat and vegetables are evenly coated with the marinade.
  3. 3.
Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle on a lightly floured surface.
  4. 4.
Place a portion of the marinated meat and vegetable mixture onto one half of the rolled-out dough circle. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, pressing the edges to seal.
  5. 5.
Heat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly grease with vegetable oil. Cook the stuffed pancakes for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
  6. 6.
Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
  7. 7.
Serve the Chifa-inspired stuffed pancakes hot and enjoy!

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Marinated meat — Ensure the meat is thinly sliced for quick and even cooking.
  • Chinese five-spice powder — Adjust the amount according to your preference for a stronger or milder flavor.
  • Vegetables — Slice the vegetables thinly to ensure they cook evenly within the pancakes.
  • Dough — Resting the dough allows it to relax and become more pliable, making it easier to roll out.
