Ingredients
In this Iranian adaptation of Hasa adas, we incorporate Iranian flavors and ingredients to create a unique twist on the traditional Yemeni dish. The addition of saffron, a staple in Iranian cuisine, adds a distinct flavor and vibrant color to the stew. Preparation

1.In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.

2.Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a walnut.

3.In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs from the pot and set aside.

4.In the same pot, add the rinsed lentils, beef or vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, saffron threads, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the lentils are tender.

5.Return the meatballs to the pot and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

6.Adjust the seasoning with salt if needed.
