Preparation

  1. 1.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, salt, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves. Mix well until a dough forms.
  2. 2.
Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thick rope. Cut the rope into small dumplings, about 2cm (3/4 inch) in length.
  3. 3.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the dumplings and cook until they float to the surface, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  4. 4.
In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until golden brown.
  5. 5.
Add the saffron threads to the pan and stir for a minute to release their flavor. Pour in the vegetable broth and coconut milk, and bring to a simmer.
  6. 6.
Gently add the cooked dumplings to the sauce and simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. 7.
Serve the Egyptian-style Kluski śląskie hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Saffron — To enhance the flavor and aroma of saffron, soak the threads in a tablespoon of warm water for 10 minutes before adding them to the sauce.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the sauce.
  • For a creamier texture, substitute half of the vegetable broth with additional coconut milk.
  • Experiment with different Egyptian spice blends to customize the flavor profile of the dish.
