Ingredients
In the original Croatian dish of Krpice sa zeljem, the cabbage is typically cooked with smoked meat or bacon for added flavor. However, in the Maritime adaptation, we will omit the smoked meat and focus on the natural sweetness of the cabbage. Additionally, we will use homemade egg noodles instead of the traditional krpice pasta, which is commonly used in the original dish. Preparation

1.Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

2.Add the sliced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.

3.Add the thinly sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir well to combine with the onion and garlic.

4.Season the cabbage with salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to evenly distribute the spices.

5.Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the cabbage cook for about 20 minutes, or until it becomes tender and slightly caramelized, stirring occasionally.

6.While the cabbage is cooking, prepare the homemade egg noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

7.Once the cabbage is cooked, add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet and toss gently to combine with the cabbage.

8.Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
