Ingredients

In this Southeast Asian adaptation of sincronizadas, we infuse the dish with the flavors of the region. The traditional Mexican ingredients are enhanced with Southeast Asian spices such as lemongrass, ginger, and chili. The fillings are marinated in a blend of soy sauce, fish sauce, and lime juice to add a tangy and savory element. The vegetables are also given an Asian twist, with the addition of bok choy, bean sprouts, and Thai basil. These modifications create a unique fusion dish that celebrates the best of both cuisines. We alse have the original recipe for Sincronizadas, so you can check it out.

Preparation

  1. 1.
In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, minced garlic, lemongrass, and grated ginger. Add the sliced chicken or beef to the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  2. 2.
Heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Brush the tortillas with vegetable oil on both sides and grill them for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they are lightly charred. Set aside.
  3. 3.
In a separate pan, heat some vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken or beef and cook until it is browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. 4.
In the same pan, add the sliced bell pepper, onion, bean sprouts, and bok choy. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  5. 5.
To assemble the sincronizadas, place a grilled tortilla on a clean surface. Sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese on one half of the tortilla. Top with a portion of the cooked chicken or beef and the stir-fried vegetables. Fold the tortilla in half to cover the filling.
  6. 6.
Repeat the process with the remaining tortillas and filling ingredients.
  7. 7.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Place the filled sincronizadas in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the cheese is melted and the tortillas are crispy.
  8. 8.
Remove from heat and cut each sincronizada into halves or quarters.
  9. 9.
Garnish with fresh Thai basil leaves and serve hot.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Chicken or beef — For best results, slice the meat thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  • Lemongrass — Remove the tough outer layers of the lemongrass stalk before finely chopping it.
  • Thai basil — Use fresh Thai basil leaves for a distinct Southeast Asian flavor. If unavailable, regular basil can be used as a substitute.

Tips & Tricks

  • To add an extra kick of heat, sprinkle some sliced red chili peppers on top of the sincronizadas before serving.
  • Experiment with different fillings such as shrimp, tofu, or a combination of vegetables for vegetarian options.
  • Serve with a side of sweet chili sauce or peanut sauce for dipping.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the amount of lemongrass and ginger in the marinade.
  • For a quicker version, you can use store-bought rotisserie chicken or leftover cooked meat instead of marinating and cooking the chicken or beef from scratch.

Serving advice

Serve the Savory Southeast Asian Sincronizadas as a main course for lunch or dinner. They can be enjoyed on their own or accompanied by a fresh salad or a side of steamed jasmine rice.

Presentation advice

Arrange the sincronizadas on a platter, garnish with fresh Thai basil leaves, and serve them hot. The vibrant colors of the vegetables and the golden-brown crust of the tortillas will make for an enticing presentation.
