Preparation

  1. 1.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. 2.
Gradually add the cold water, a little at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. 3.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. 4.
In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, Tasmanian honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  5. 5.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle approximately 12x16 inches.
  6. 6.
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. 7.
Starting from one of the longer sides, carefully roll the dough into a log, sealing the edges.
  8. 8.
Transfer the kringle to the prepared baking sheet and brush the top with the beaten egg wash.
  9. 9.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the kringle is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. 10.
Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Treat your ingredients with care...
