Ingredients

In this Epirotic adaptation, we incorporate Greek herbs, feta cheese, and extra virgin olive oil to infuse the dish with Mediterranean flavors. The traditional Mexican spices are replaced with a blend of Epirotic herbs, giving the fajitas a unique twist. Additionally, warm pita bread is used instead of tortillas to enhance the Greek influence. We alse have the original recipe for Fajitas, so you can check it out.

Preparation

  1. 1.
In a bowl, combine the sliced chicken or beef with olive oil, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried thyme, dried rosemary, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. 2.
Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken or beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. 3.
Remove the cooked chicken or beef from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté until they are tender and slightly charred, about 5 minutes.
  4. 4.
Return the cooked chicken or beef to the skillet and toss with the bell peppers and onions. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. 5.
Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese over the fajita mixture and gently toss to combine.
  6. 6.
Serve the Epirotic Fajitas hot with warm pita bread on the side.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Chicken or beef — For tender and juicy meat, make sure to slice it thinly against the grain.
  • Feta cheese — Opt for high-quality feta cheese for its authentic Greek flavor. If unavailable, you can substitute it with crumbled goat cheese.

Tips & Tricks

  • To add a smoky flavor, you can grill the bell peppers and onions instead of sautéing them.
  • Customize your Epirotic Fajitas by adding sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, or olives as additional toppings.
  • For a spicier kick, sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes over the fajitas before serving.
  • If you prefer a vegetarian version, you can substitute the chicken or beef with grilled halloumi cheese.

Serving advice

Serve the Epirotic Fajitas on a large platter, allowing everyone to assemble their own wraps. Accompany the dish with a side of tzatziki sauce for dipping.

Presentation advice

Arrange the colorful fajita mixture on the platter, garnishing it with fresh herbs such as parsley or dill. Place warm pita bread in a basket or on a separate plate to create an inviting presentation.
