Ingredients

While the original Mexican guacamole traditionally includes ingredients like cilantro, lime, and jalapenos, our Greek-inspired version swaps these out for lemon, feta cheese, and fresh herbs. This adaptation adds a zesty and tangy flavor profile that complements the creamy avocados perfectly. Additionally, we incorporate Greek olives and cucumber for a refreshing crunch. We alse have the original recipe for Guacamole, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Avocados — Choose ripe avocados that yield to gentle pressure when squeezed. If they are not ripe enough, place them in a paper bag with a banana or apple to speed up the ripening process.
  • Feta cheese — Use high-quality feta cheese for the best flavor. If you prefer a milder taste, you can soak the feta in water for 30 minutes before crumbling it into the guacamole.
  • Kalamata olives — Pit and chop the Kalamata olives before adding them to the guacamole for easier mixing and distribution of flavors.
  • Fresh herbs — Make sure to chop the fresh dill and mint finely to evenly distribute their flavors throughout the guacamole.
  • Lemon juice — Squeeze the lemon just before adding it to the guacamole to ensure the freshest taste.

Tips & Tricks

  • For a creamier texture, blend half of the guacamole mixture in a food processor before combining it with the remaining chunky guacamole.
  • Adjust the amount of lemon juice according to your taste preference. Add more for a tangier flavor or less for a milder taste.
  • Serve the Greek-style guacamole with pita bread, toasted pita chips, or cucumber slices for a refreshing twist.
  • Customize the heat level by adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce if desired.
  • To prevent the guacamole from browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface before refrigerating.

Serving advice

Serve the Greek-style guacamole as a dip with pita bread or as a topping for grilled meats, fish, or roasted vegetables. It also pairs well with Greek-style salads or as a spread in sandwiches and wraps.

Presentation advice

Garnish the Greek-style guacamole with a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and a few extra Kalamata olives for an appetizing presentation. Serve it in a shallow bowl or on a platter to showcase the vibrant colors of the ingredients.
