Ingredients

In this adaptation of Hkatenkwan, we have made a few modifications to suit American cuisine. While the original recipe traditionally uses goat meat, we have substituted it with chicken, a popular protein choice in American cooking. Additionally, we have incorporated sweet potatoes and bell peppers to add a touch of sweetness and crunch, which are commonly used in American stews. These adaptations enhance the flavors and textures of the dish while maintaining the essence of the original Hkatenkwan. We alse have the original recipe for Hkatenkwan, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Chicken thighs — Ensure that the chicken is cut into bite-sized pieces for even cooking and tenderness.
  • Peanut butter — Use creamy peanut butter for a smooth and velvety texture in the stew.
  • Sweet potatoes — Dice the sweet potatoes into uniform pieces to ensure they cook evenly.

Tips & Tricks

  • For a spicier stew, increase the amount of chili peppers or leave the seeds in.
  • Adjust the consistency of the stew by adding more chicken broth or coconut milk if desired.
  • Garnish with chopped peanuts and fresh cilantro for added texture and freshness.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
  • Experiment with different vegetables such as butternut squash or kale for variation.
