Ingredients

In the British-style Pipian Stew, we adapt the traditional Mexican Pipian by incorporating British ingredients and flavors. Instead of using traditional Mexican chilies, we use British spices like paprika and thyme to add depth and warmth to the stew. Additionally, we replace some of the Mexican vegetables with British favorites such as carrots and potatoes, giving the dish a distinct British touch. We alse have the original recipe for Pipian, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Pumpkin seeds — Make sure to use roasted pumpkin seeds for a richer flavor. If you can't find roasted pumpkin seeds, you can roast them yourself by spreading them on a baking sheet and baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • For a creamier texture, you can blend a portion of the stew before adding the frozen peas.
  • Serve the British-style Pipian Stew with crusty bread or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables such as bell peppers or zucchini for extra flavor and variety.
  • Adjust the spiciness by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes if desired.
