Preparation
-
1.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
-
2.In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves and turns into a golden caramel color.
-
3.Pour the caramel into a round baking dish, swirling it around to coat the bottom evenly.
-
4.In a mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed milk, whole milk, eggs, and Arctic spice blend until well combined.
-
5.Pour the mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
-
6.Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan and fill the roasting pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
-
7.Carefully transfer the roasting pan to the preheated oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
-
8.Remove the baking dish from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.
-
9.Once cooled, refrigerate the flan for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow it to fully set.
-
10.To serve, run a knife around the edges of the baking dish to loosen the flan. Invert the dish onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the flan.
-
11.Garnish with Arctic berries and serve chilled.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Arctic berries — If fresh Arctic berries are not available, you can use frozen berries or substitute with cranberries or raspberries.
- Arctic spice blend — If you don't have access to Arctic spices, you can create a similar blend using a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom.
Tips & Tricks
- To achieve a smooth flan, strain the mixture before pouring it into the baking dish to remove any lumps.
- For a stronger Arctic flavor, you can add a few drops of Arctic berry liqueur to the flan mixture.
- Serve the flan with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of Arctic spice blend for an extra touch of indulgence.
Serving advice
Serve the Inuit-inspired Pudim de Leite Condensado chilled for the best flavor and texture. Drizzle each serving with the caramel sauce and garnish with fresh Arctic berries. This dessert pairs well with a cup of warm herbal tea to balance the sweetness.
Presentation advice
To create an elegant presentation, use individual ramekins instead of a large baking dish. When serving, carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate, allowing the caramel to flow over the flan. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or a dusting of powdered sugar for a visually appealing touch.
