Ingredients
In this South Sudanese adaptation, we substitute the traditional sour cream with coconut milk to infuse the dish with a tropical twist. The use of millet instead of wheat flour adds a nutty flavor and a unique texture to the porridge. These modifications create a dish that is more suitable for the South Sudanese palate and incorporates local ingredients. We alse have the original recipe for Rømmegrøt, so you can check it out.

- Coconut milk — Shake the can of coconut milk well before using to ensure a smooth consistency.
- Sugar — Adjust the amount of sugar according to your desired level of sweetness.
- Vanilla extract — Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
- Optional toppings — Toast the coconut flakes in a dry pan over medium heat until golden brown for added crunch and aroma.
Tips & Tricks
- For a creamier texture, you can blend a portion of the cooked millet before adding the coconut milk.
- Experiment with different toppings such as fresh berries, chopped mango, or a drizzle of honey for added variety.
- If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add more coconut milk or water while cooking.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently on the stovetop or in the microwave. Add a splash of coconut milk or water to restore the desired consistency.
