Preparation
-
1.Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions.
-
2.In a small bowl, mix together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat the mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds to dissolve the sugar.
-
3.Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over it. Gently fold the rice with a wooden spoon to evenly distribute the vinegar. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
-
4.Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and put a sheet of nori on top.
-
5.Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking and spread a thin layer of saffron-infused rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
-
6.Arrange the shrimp, chorizo, roasted red pepper, and avocado slices in a line across the center of the rice.
-
7.Using the bamboo mat, tightly roll the sushi, applying gentle pressure to ensure a compact roll.
-
8.Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
-
9.Slice each sushi roll into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife.
-
10.Serve the Spanish-style sushi rolls with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Shrimp — Ensure the shrimp is fully cooked before using in the sushi rolls to avoid any risk of foodborne illness.
- Chorizo — Use thinly sliced chorizo for easy rolling and even distribution of flavors.
Tips & Tricks
- To prevent the sushi rice from sticking to your hands, keep a bowl of water nearby and wet your hands before handling the rice.
- Experiment with different Spanish ingredients such as Manchego cheese or marinated artichokes to add more flavor to your sushi rolls.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a few drops of hot sauce or sprinkle some chili flakes on top of the sushi rolls.
