Ingredients

While the original Tacos al Pastor is traditionally made with marinated pork cooked on a vertical spit, our Hungarian-inspired version incorporates Hungarian spices and flavors. We also substitute the traditional corn tortillas with Hungarian flatbread, known as "lángos," and add a touch of Hungarian paprika for an extra kick. This adaptation brings a delightful fusion of Mexican and Hungarian cuisines to your plate. We alse have the original recipe for Tacos al pastor, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Pork shoulder — For best results, choose a boneless pork shoulder with some marbling for added flavor and tenderness.
  • Hungarian paprika — Use high-quality Hungarian paprika for an authentic taste. Adjust the amount according to your spice preference.
  • Hungarian lángos — If Hungarian lángos is not available, you can substitute it with soft tortillas or pita bread.

Tips & Tricks

  • For a smoky flavor, you can grill the pork over charcoal instead of using a grill pan.
  • If you prefer a milder spice level, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper or omit it altogether.
  • Serve the Tacos al Pastor with a side of Hungarian pickles for a tangy contrast.
  • Experiment with different toppings such as sour cream or grated cheese to add a Hungarian twist.
  • If you don't have access to Hungarian sweet paprika sauce, you can substitute it with a combination of sweet paprika and a touch of honey.

Serving advice

Serve the Hungarian-inspired Tacos al Pastor hot, allowing your guests to assemble their own tacos. Provide lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos to enhance the flavors.

Presentation advice

Arrange the grilled pork slices, shredded cabbage, diced pineapple, and chopped cilantro in separate bowls for a colorful and inviting taco bar setup. Place the warm lángos on a platter and let your guests build their own tacos, creating a visually appealing and interactive dining experience.
