Preparation

  1. 1.
In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina, warm water, salt, chili powder, and cumin. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  2. 2.
In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and tomato. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
  3. 3.
Add the cooked chorizo to the pan and stir to combine with the vegetables. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. 4.
Take a small portion of the masa dough and flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place a spoonful of the chorizo and vegetable mixture in the center of the dough.
  5. 5.
Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, sealing it to form a small dumpling. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  6. 6.
Prepare a steamer by filling a pot with water and placing a steamer basket inside. Bring the water to a boil.
  7. 7.
Arrange the Mexican dim sum dumplings in the steamer basket, leaving space between each dumpling to allow for expansion.
  8. 8.
Cover the steamer and steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and the filling is heated.
  9. 9.
Remove the dumplings from the steamer and garnish with chopped cilantro and crumbled queso fresco.
  10. 10.
Serve the Mexican Dim Sum hot and enjoy!

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Masa harina — Ensure the masa harina is fresh and not expired for the best texture and flavor.
  • Chorizo — Use cooked and crumbled chorizo for easy incorporation into the dumpling filling.
  • Queso fresco — Crumble the queso fresco just before serving to maintain its texture and freshness.
  • Chili powder — Adjust the amount of chili powder according to your spice preference.
  • Cilantro — Rinse the cilantro thoroughly and chop it just before garnishing the dumplings to preserve its vibrant flavor.
