Preparation
-
1.In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, harissa paste, cilantro, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
-
2.Take a dumpling wrapper and place a spoonful of the lamb mixture in the center. Fold the wrapper in half and seal the edges by pressing firmly with your fingers. Repeat this process until all the lamb mixture is used.
-
3.Prepare a steamer by filling a pot with water and placing a steaming basket or rack inside. Bring the water to a boil.
-
4.Brush the steamer rack with olive oil to prevent the dumplings from sticking. Arrange the dumplings on the rack, leaving some space between each dumpling.
-
5.Place the steamer rack with the dumplings over the boiling water. Cover the pot with a lid and steam the dumplings for about 15-20 minutes, or until the lamb is cooked through and the dumpling wrappers are tender.
-
6.Once cooked, carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve hot.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Ground lamb — Make sure to use lean ground lamb for a healthier option. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can substitute ground beef or chicken.
- Harissa paste — Adjust the amount of harissa paste according to your spice preference. Add more for a spicier kick or reduce it for a milder taste.
Tips & Tricks
- To prevent the dumplings from sticking to the steamer, you can line the steamer rack with cabbage leaves or parchment paper.
- Serve the Moroccan-inspired dim sum with a side of mint yogurt sauce or a spicy harissa dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
- If you don't have a steamer, you can use a bamboo steamer or improvise by placing a heatproof plate on top of a pot of boiling water.
