1.In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced red bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.

2.Add the sliced carrot and cubed tofu to the pot. Cook for a few minutes until the tofu starts to brown slightly.

3.Stir in the soaked black beans, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, and chili flakes (if using). Mix well to coat the ingredients.

4.Pour in the vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 1 hour or until the black beans are tender.

5.Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning if needed.

6.Serve the Chinese-style Feijoada hot, garnished with fresh cilantro. It pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
