Ingredients

In this Marshallese adaptation, we infuse the traditional Italian Spiedo Bresciano with the tropical flavors of the Marshallese Islands. The original dish typically consists of skewered meats, such as pork, beef, and chicken, cooked over an open fire. In our version, we incorporate local Marshallese ingredients, such as fresh pineapple, papaya, and bell peppers, to add a burst of tropical sweetness. Additionally, we marinate the meat in a blend of coconut milk, lime juice, and island spices to infuse it with the unique flavors of the Marshallese cuisine. We alse have the original recipe for Spiedo Bresciano, so you can check it out.

  6. 6.
Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. 7.
Serve the Marshallese-style Grilled Skewers hot and enjoy the tropical flavors of the Marshallese Islands.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Pineapple — Choose a ripe pineapple for maximum sweetness. If fresh pineapple is not available, you can use canned pineapple chunks, but make sure to drain them well before using.
  • Papaya — Look for a ripe papaya with orange flesh. It should be slightly soft to the touch.
  • Coconut milk — Shake the can of coconut milk well before using to ensure the cream and liquid are well combined.

Tips & Tricks

  • Soaking the wooden skewers in water prevents them from burning on the grill.
  • Baste the skewers with the remaining marinade while grilling for extra flavor.
  • Feel free to customize the skewers by adding other favorite fruits or vegetables.
  • Serve the skewers with a side of coconut rice for a complete meal.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a dash of chili powder or hot sauce to the marinade.
